Both lenses tested at 16mm with tripod.
Sony 16-105 can go as wide as F3.5 at 16mm so in the first comparison its F3.5 is compared to Tokina's widest aperture which is F2.8. In this comparison Sony 16-105 performs better in all fields: It has less vignetting and its sharpness is better both in corners and center.
In the second comparison Tokina is also stopped down to F3.5 so their apertures are now same. Tokina's vignetting improved but Tokina lost some contrast as it always does. Sony 16-105 still seems to be doing better.
When both stopped down to F5.6, both lenses improves a little more but I still found Sony slighly better than Tokina.
At F8, Tokina closes the gap and except the lack of Contrast it is as good as Sony at sharpness. And F11 Tokina is sharper in the corners. [Review by Sinan Ozturk]
