At their widest aperture (F2.8), Tamron and Sony has a close sharpness performance for corners. However in the center Sony seems to have an edge. On the other hand, even if both lenses have vignetting in F2.8, Sony's vignetting is apperantly more obvious and lurkes more of the corners.

In the second photo they are stopped down and their performance comes very close. At this aperture Sony is definetely keeping some of its vignetting while Tamron significantly improves and better than Sony in vignetting. On the other hand Sony seems to have a little more contrast than Tamron at this stop. Their corner sharpness performans looks very similiar to me (if not exact). They are also quite sharp in the center but Sony seems to be just a tad sharper than Tamron. It might be looking sharper due to its strength in contrast though. None the less in my opinion they are still very close to each other.

In the third comparison lenses are now at F8. Sony's vignetting improved much better and nearly non existing at this aperture. Yet if you zoom very corners, Tamron seems still "brighter" so I believe very small percentage of Sony's corner vignetting is still lurking even in F8 but its not worth mentioning. Their corner sharpness performance are also nearly identical. Yet now Tamron seems to gain an edge regarding contrast so if you look really really deep, Tamron looks very slightly more sharp. This is so for both corners and center but in my opinion its more significant in the center. [Review by Sinan Ozturk]
