Sony A35 is equiped with Tokina 11-16 lens + Polarizer filter for better landscape photos. (the vignetting in the corners is due to polarizer, please ignore them). Its set to F16 for wide depth of field and in base ISO 100, this took shutter speed down to 1/30s even under bright sunlight. Since we are shooting at 11mm, 1/30s is still good enough for hand held shooting yet, it can tell how dramatically shutter speed can drop even in very bright light conditions in traditional SLR cameras in landspace shooting with small apertures & polarizer filter (which effect shutter speed around 2 stops btw).

Under same conditions Sony RX100 2 shooting only at F5.6 and with 1/640 with its base ISO (160). Yet due to its compact structure, you can see that its depth of field at F5.6 is as wide as traditional SLR's F16 (if not wider).

Both cameras managed to keep infinite sharp, yet in RX100 in front of the camera is also sharper than A35 whose sharper area started after around 50 cm.

Since A35 is shooting with a higher focal length (11 mm) it even has a advantage in depth of field calculations yet it couldn't manage to get that high depth of field, RX100 gets. If A35 had a narrow lens as RX100 (like kit 18-55 kit lens), it would lose more of its front sharp area.

Considering this is under bright sunlight, you can image what would happen if photo would shot in lower light like dusk or cloudy whether. Rx100 would easily compansate low light by dropping its very high shutter speed (1/640), but SLR camera wouldn't dare going more slow in shutter speed since its already as slow as 1/30 so it would need to raise ISO unless you relinquish F16 or hand hald shot.
